Closing Time

Hi friends.

You’re going to want to read this one.

But where do I begin? Perhaps at the beginning.

On January 5, 2014, I wrote my first blog post about The Pint House. Last Sunday, I wrote my last blog post about Velvet Ice Cream

That’s right – I’m stepping away from blogging. *Cue Semisonic*

Less than 5 years ago, I bought my first DSLR camera. I remember thinking that I just wanted it because I loved taking photos of absolutely everything. But in the back of my head I thought, “Man, it would be so cool if I could EVER IN MY LIFETIME make back the $600 I just spent on this camera,” which now makes me smile so hard when I think about that moment.

I’m now actively putting myself on a path to realize my dream of being a photographer full time (thanks to my amazing business coach Adam Lehman at The Wonder Jam). For the past year or so, I’ve known that it would get harder (significantly harder) before it got easier. (Because full time job + side hustle + blogging + social life + family = amazing but also really really time-consuming and difficult to maintain.)

When I began blogging, I had no idea that I’d write 130 restaurant features over a 30-month period. I had no idea I’d connect with a huge blogging community in Columbus. I had no idea I’d meet some of the most amazing restauranteurs in the midwest. And I had no idea how much everyone would embrace and support me.

I am so incredibly grateful for what Columbus has given me through Best of the Menu. Thank you to you, the followers, to the restaurants I featured, to the bloggers who welcomed me into the blogging community, to the PR teams who invited me to events, and to every single person who supported me and stayed engaged in this foodie adventure – you all rock so hard.

One thank you deserves its own paragraph – and that’s for my mom. She truly is the silent partner behind Best of the Menu. Every week, she’d always comment on how much she loved the latest feature, and would let me know if she spotted any typos (which any blogger knows is incredibly helpful)…including the time she sent me a text that said “There’s a typo: ‘af’,” and I had to explain to her that “af” means “as f*ck,” as in, “this is tasty af.” :)

What’s next? Well maybe I should’ve started with this – the end of this chapter is not absolute. You can still follow my food adventures on social media. I’ll be posting food pics (probably forever, since I’ll love food forever) on Best of the Menu’s Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. I’ll keep bestofthemenu.com around for a while as an archive, I just won’t be adding new posts each Sunday.

I’d also love to connect with you via Autumn Theodore Photography on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Be sure to follow along, because it’s inevitable I’ll post some food pics there too.

Thank you thank you thank you for this amazing journey – we’re just getting started. :)

Gastronomically yours,
SignatureFirst
